Find A Lost Pet
Visit your nearest shelter if you have lost a pet. If an animal is found with a microchip, dog license or other traceable identification, L.A. Animal Services will notify the owner. If you provide a photo of your lost pet, it can be posted on the Department’s website: www.LAAnimalServices.com

Found Pets
Anyone who has found a lost pet or stray should take it to the nearest animal shelter to provide the owner with an opportunity to locate and claim it.

Adopt A Pet
A variety of animals, from purebred to mixed breeds, are available for adoption at Animal Shelters. Adoption costs vary and include vaccination, micro-chipping and sterilization.

License Pet
The law requires a license for dogs and horses. You may purchase a license at any L.A. Animal Care and control center. The annual license fee is $100.00 for an unsterilized dog and $10.00 for a sterilized dog. The annual license fee for a horse is $14.00.

I.D./License Tags
Dogs are required to wear license tags on their collars or halters at all times. A personal I.D. tag, clearly displaying the owner’s phone number is also advisable. It is important to update license information and tags if you move. Keep current photo of your pet for I.D. purposes and consider micro-chipping to provide pets a lifelong I.D.

Vaccinate A Pet
Low-cost vaccination clinics are offered year-round at various locations. Any dog over four (4) months of age is required to have a current rabies vaccination and dog owners should retain the vaccination documentation.

Microchip A Pet
Make an appointment with your local shelter and microchip your animal. Microchipping is a virtually painless procedure that takes minutes and provides positive permanent identification for your companion animal. The cost to microchip each animal is $25.00.

Spay/Neuter Your Pet
For those who cannot afford the cost of altering their pets, L.A. animal services provides a SPAYMOBILE that travels to different areas of the city providing free spay/neuter services.

Report A Dangerous Animal
Call the toll free service number and contact the animal shelter near you to report an animal that has attacked a person or another animal.

Report A Barking Dog Problem
Submit a written, detailed complaint to the nearest shelter and L.A animal services will request the owner to comply with regulations.

Report Animal Cruelty
If you observe mistreatment or neglect of an animal, contact your local shelter and L.A. animal services will investigate.

Stray Animals
You may take a sick or injured stray animal to the nearest shelter or call to request field personnel to respond.

Leash Law
Dogs must be kept on your own property unless under the control of a competent person and restrained on a leash six feet or less in length.

Sanitation
Dog owners are responsible for immediately removing any feces deposited by a dog on public or private property.

Care & Attention
Any animal neglected, abandoned or kept without food, water or proper care and attention can be removed by the department of animal services and the owner cited.
