Youth Advocacy Program "YAP" YAP is an early intervention program for at-risk juveniles between the ages of 6-17 years old. YAP is funded by the city of Los Angeles for city residents only. The mission of the YAP program is to provide an early intervention and diversion services to at-risk youth and their families. Young people targeted for "youth advocacy" services are those who are at risk of becoming involved in criminal activity, or are-first or second time offenders who are not involved in serious crimes against persons, not already gang members, and not on probation or parole. All referrals to the YAP are made by the Los Angeles Police Department, or the Los Angeles County Juvenile Court. Some of the topics covered by the YAP include: Goal setting instruction, Educational support, Tutoring, Drug and alcohol abuse prevention activities, Mentor involvement, College and career exploration, Cultural activities, Community service activities and Neighborhood improvement projects. The Healthy Start Program meets on the campus of Westchester High School. The program supports Westchester High School Students and their parents.
